WCPSS teachers must meet the following criteria to be considered for cooperating teacher opportunities:
- Selection/approval by supervising principal
- Certification in the area he/she is being asked to supervise
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience
- Tenured teahers are preferred as are mentors certified by WCPSS.
Selection of cooperating teachers is a school-level decision based upon preserving the best interest of the instructional program at each individual school. Cooperating teachers are selected as the result of collaborative efforts between principals and university contacts. Any teacher who is approached about hosting a student teacher should immediately refer that request to the principal.
