Gifts to the System

gifts image

Schools welcome and appreciate all donations of funds and materials that are beneficial to the education of students.  Items donated are the property of the school or school system and not an individual.  Of course, a donation may be designated to a particular classroom, program, or area of the school.  If a donation is accepted, all donors shall receive a letter of acknowledgement unless the funds donated are less than twenty five dollars.  If this is the case, the donor does however, receive a receipt for tax purposes.

A summary of gifts to the system is presented to the WCPSS Board of Education each month for their approval. School secretaries or school bookkeepers are a school’s manager for receipting and logging donations for their school.  After the board of education accepts the monthly list of donations, an acknowledgement letter is mailed to each donor as a sincere thank you and a verification of the donor’s gift for tax purposes.

Board of Education Policy

2410        PUBLIC GIFTS TO SCHOOLS

gifts image

While it is recognized that the practice of giving public gifts to schools embraces an amount of commendable spirit, such activities may contain inherent complications and problems for the schools.  Therefore, administrators shall examine seriously any such offers and refer any such areas of question to the superintendent, or his designee, for action or recommendation.
Any offer of gifts to a school or schools, or to the school system, shall be studied by the superintendent, or his designee, who shall then submit a summary of the findings to the Board for action.
