Description
Welcome to Aversboro Elementary, a STEM Network Collaborative School.
Being part of the STEM Network allows our learning opportunities to focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Students are challenged, nurtured, and guided through innovative learning activities that are integrative and reinforced by the Engineering Design Process. Students at Aversboro have the technology available for their learning that will support their growth in our changing world.
Our literacy model allows for students to build their reading stamina, to have a wide variety of text available for their reading growth, and for students to receive instruction at his or her reading level based on several methods of reading assessment. Mastering strong literacy skills is the number one indicator of student success.
Our classroom teachers, specialists, and support specialists collaborate to meet the individual learning needs of our students. All learning and instructional decisions are based on what is in the best interest of the child.
Parents, teachers, students, and the involvement of the community all support our learning programs at Aversboro Elementary. We invite you to visit our web page (http://aversboroes.wcpss.net/) for more information about the wonderful educational opportunities at Aversboro Elementary.
Curriculum: Small School
Small Schools allow students to work with high caliber faculty while developing meaningful and supportive relationships. In a small schools environment, entire classrooms can be dedicated to learning centers, and technology is readily available for students to use.
Small schools receive:
- Extra teacher months of employment
- Three full-time special teachers for Physical Education, Art and Music
- Smaller teacher-student ratios
- A one-to-one student-technology ratio in most classrooms
The reduced class size provides the perfect opportunity to nurture individual student potential as teachers have the ability to address multiple styles of learning. Students will experience more personalized attention from teachers and a nurturing environment that fosters experimentation with new challenges and enhanced learning.
