    Description

Cary Elementary School is a learning community focused on the success of every child. Commitment to academic excellence and personal growth for all children is a source of pride for students, parents and staff. Through collaboration and teamwork, we support and challenge our diverse population, engaging students with learning tools and opportunities that enable them to become 21st century learners and responsible citizens. Approximately 90% of Cary Elementary students consistently score at or above grade level.

Cary Elementary is located in the heart of downtown Cary neighboring the new Cary Cultural Arts Center, which we have the privilege of using twice each month. As the site of the first public school in North Carolina, we are rich in history and embrace and value our longstanding place in the Cary community. Those who visit Cary Elementary often comment on our warm and welcoming atmosphere, which we are proud to maintain for the benefit of our students, parents, visitors, and volunteers.

The Cary Elementary School family currently consists of about 510 K-5 students and 70 staff members. Class size averages are 20 students for primary classes and 24 students for 3rd -5th classes. Our students attend weekly “specials” that include Music, PE, Art, Technology, Media, and Discovery on a rotational basis. Field trips provide real life application of the curriculum as grade levels attend 2-3 trips each year that include 4th and 5th grade charter bus trips to Old Salem and Wilmington’s aquarium and battleship.

At Cary Elementary we believe in setting expectations high for all students, while giving each child the individual support to meet their potential. We achieve this through leveling instruction and offering classroom groups and activities that provide extra support for struggling students and enrichment opportunities for students who need additional challenges. Integrating technology into instruction is a current focus. While budgets continue to be tight, we are proud that over the past 3 years we have added 25 interactive white boards (Promethean Boards) so every classroom has access. In addition to school wide wireless access and 4-6 desktop computers per classroom, each grade level team also has a technology cart that includes a document camera, digital camera, and Flip video camera. Teachers and students use this technology to make learning more fun, interactive, and applicable to the world around them.
