Curriculum: Center for Spanish Language/IB PYP
Theme Description
1.Daily Spanish instruction for all K-5 students
2.Development of Spanish cultural understanding through art, music, and dance
3.International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP)
Description
The Center for Spanish Language/IB PYP at Joyner Elementary offers the most extensive Spanish language program to elementary students in Wake County Schools. It creates a learning environment in which students use structured inquiry to help construct their own knowledge; strengthen literacy and communication skills in English and Spanish; increase positive, cross-cultural attitudes; and create an understanding of their world through community involvement and collaboration.
All students will receive literacy and communication instruction in Spanish as they learn to express themselves in two languages (English and Spanish). This instruction enables students to communicate with each other in two languages both inside and outside the classroom.
