Description

Holly Grove Elementary operates on a multi-track year round calendar that combines high academic standards and a nurturing environment for students. Our school day incorporates up to a 2-hour Literacy Block and a 1-hour Mathematics block.

Students at year-round schools are divided into four groups, called tracks, with each track having its own calendar. In a year-round elementary school, the traditional 180-day school year is divided into nine-week quarters with a three week break at the end of each quarter. Students are in school the same number of days as their counterparts in traditional schools; the days are simply redistributed throughout the year.

Schedules are staggered so that, at any given time, three tracks are in school and one is on break. These staggered schedules make it possible for the school to serve up to thirty-three percent more students than its intended capacity.

Our 3-5 track out academy program offers additional days of instruction to students in reading, writing, and mathematics. We also have a pull out K-2 accelerated learning program to provide remediation in reading. Our Academically Gifted program is a pull out/push in model at grades 4 and 5 for students who qualify as having strong needs. We offer the explorers program in grade 3 and a consultation model for students in grades K-2.

Holly Grove Elementary’s highly dedicated staff and active PTA unites the many academic programs with events such as Laps for Holly Grove, our school’s annual “Fun, Fundraising and Fitness” event and monthly Character Education activities.
